The days when electronic devices were large and bulky are long gone. Technology has also become fashionable and there are increasingly more companies making greater efforts, not only to develop electronic devices, but also to create a design that will grab the attention of customers. Nowadays, electronic devices are another accessory to a person’s look. A result of this new reality is EOZ Audio, the startup that has come up with cordless high-quality earphones with a unique design thanks to the use of materials like aluminium and leather.
EOZ Audio was set up in June 2016 by Nicolas Dimitrescu and his partner. With long careers working for different companies in China, the two entrepreneurs decided to make the leap into the world of earphones to create an innovative product in terms of its design and features, the EOZ One earbuds. "The difference between our earphones and the rest of the market is the materials used: we use aluminium and leather to give a design finish different from that of the competition," says Dimitrescu.
Despite the more modern and minimalist design of their earbuds, EOZ Audio sells its products for around 120 euros, very close to the rest of the companies in the sector. The founders of EOZ Audio design the earphones themselves.
"EOZ One earphones stand out from the competition due to the use of materials like aluminium and leather to give an innovative design finish"
The startup’s main public are people who like product design and fashion. EOZ customers want a good product that also has a sophisticated design that looks good when used, as another accessory to their look. Yet, they also have clients in the world of sport, as their earphones work with bluetooth and are cordless.
The company began distributing their products in Asian countries, such as Taiwan, Singapore, Hong Kong, India, Korea and Japan. In these countries, the main sales channel is distribution through commercial agreements with companies in the countries, who send the products to the shops. In Europe, the US and Canada, EOZ Audio sells its earphones through its website.
The company funded itself through a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter
The startup, located in the Almogàvers Business Factory of Barcelona Activa, funded itself with a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter, where they raised 60,000 euros to produce the first devices. "After that first crowdfunding campaign, the sales of our product have allowed us to raise enough revenue to be self-sufficient," says Dimitrescu.
Nevertheless, the company is looking to start a new Kickstarter campaign in September to launch new improved versions of its products, such as cordless earphones without any leather. "We are now developing this new product and at the same time we are trying to start selling earphones in Europe and North America through our distribution channel," concludes the entrepreneur.
