No doubt many of you have heard about Netflix, the popular video streaming service that from this month will be available in our country. Despite it being a service that has been eagerly-awaited by fans of films and TV series, there is an alternative that is gaining in popularity and that allows you to watch new films and series completely for free.

Popcorn Time is a free app that can be downloaded for Windows, Mac OSX, Linux and Android that has a huge catalogue of films, series and anime (cartoons of Japanese origin). What is special about this catalogue is that, apart from including all sorts of films from the past, has a large number of new products, even some that are still in cinemas, and all in high quality. However, it is also true that the contents are in original version with the option of watching with subtitles in different languages.

How does it work?
Using it couldn't be easier. All you have to do is download the app from the official website and open it. On starting, Popcorn Time will update the catalogue and without the need to register will offer the latest available the latest features.

From the main page, you can find the most popular films, TV series or cartoons. However, if you want to watch something older, you can use the search function located in the top right of the main screen. Once you have selected something to watch, you will see the front cover, its classification and a small synopsis.

If you have still not made up your mind, you have the option of watching a trailer. Once you are sure, just click the "Watch now" button –and if necessary choose the subtitle language– to start watching in HD (720p) or FullHD (1080p).

How is it possible?
You are no doubt wondering how such an app works. The technology behind the app is curious. When you begin watching, you are not downloading the content to any internet server. Rather, you are watching it directly from the computers of other Popcorn Time users –through BitTorrent technology.

At the same time, your computer shares the content that you have downloaded on your hard drive with other users of the app. In this way, despite the dubious legality of the system, it creates a distribution network of end users that is difficult
